What is Jasclair Wellness Institute?

Jasclair Wellness Institute (JWI) is a Canadian federal non-profit corporation focused on healthy aging. Our mission is to close the gap between what the evidence shows about preventing age-related muscle loss and what older Canadians actually have access to. We publish plain-language research summaries, raise awareness of sarcopenia, and run free, coach-led virtual strength programs for adults 55–70.

Are you a clinic or a medical provider?

No. JWI is not a clinic, hospital, or medical provider, and we do not diagnose or treat medical conditions. We are an education- and prevention-focused non-profit. Our programs deliver guided physical-activity coaching and education, not medical care. Participants with health concerns are encouraged to consult their own physician.

What does the program actually involve?

Each cohort is a 12-week virtual program for a small group of adults 55–70. It includes a weekly 60-minute live group session with a qualified coach, structured strength sessions you complete on your own schedule using a donated training platform, a private peer community for support and accountability, and simple before-and-after fitness check-ins. It runs entirely online.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. The program is grant-supported, and participants pay no fees. There are no hidden costs, subscriptions, or upsells. JWI does not sell products or services to participants.

Who is eligible to join a cohort?

The program is designed for adults aged 55–70 living anywhere in Canada, with no prior strength-training experience required. You need a smartphone or computer with internet access and a small amount of space at home. Minimal equipment — bodyweight plus optional resistance bands or light dumbbells — is all that's needed.

Do I need to be fit or experienced already?

No. The program is built for beginners and for adults who are not yet experiencing significant decline but want to protect their strength and independence. Coaches guide you through proper form and progress the difficulty gradually and safely.

Is this safe for older adults?

Resistance training, when introduced gradually and coached well, is one of the most studied and beneficial activities for older adults. Sessions are coach-led and start where you are. That said, we are an education and coaching program, not a medical service — if you have a heart condition, a recent injury, or other health concerns, please check with your physician before starting any new exercise program.

How do I apply, and when do cohorts start?

You can join the waitlist through our Apply page. Cohort 1 is targeted for Fall 2026. Applications open roughly eight weeks before each cohort begins, and waitlisted applicants are notified first.

Why a non-profit instead of a fitness business?

Because the population that most needs structured strength training — older adults facing access barriers — is the one commercial fitness serves least. The non-profit model lets us focus on participant outcomes rather than revenue, accept grant and in-kind support, and keep the program free.

What is the relationship with Calyber Labs?

Calyber Labs is a separate for-profit company that donates training-platform access to our participants in-kind, at no cost — similar to how technology companies donate software to non-profits. JWI does not promote Calyber's commercial products, does not share participant contact information for marketing, and there is no commercial revenue relationship.

How is my data handled?

We collect only what we need to run the program and measure outcomes for grant reporting, and we do not sell participant data or share participant mailing lists with commercial partners. Anonymized, aggregate outcome data may be used in reports and case studies with consent.

Can I support the organization or partner with you?

Yes. JWI is supported through grants, foundation funding, corporate contributions, and in-kind technology partnerships. We are not a registered charity and cannot issue tax receipts, and we do not solicit individual donations — but we welcome funders, partners, and research collaborators. See our Support and Partners pages, or get in touch.
